If you’re not riding the wave screaming like a little girl, you’re riding too small a wave.

I attended a seminar recently called, “The Present Future: Six Tough Questions for the Church.” It was billed as a conversation with Dr. Reggie McNeal. It was not so much a conversation with the good doctor as it was a blindside sneak attack from the Holy Spirit — one I’ve kinda been expecting. His presence has been around lately. I could sense Him. Frankly, He might as well have been at this conference holding a sign that said, well, “Here’s your sign.”

I got the message loud and clear: “Welcome to the movement, Dana. This is what I’m up to these days.” Hey, maybe God doesn’t base our success as a church on Sunday school attendance. Maybe He’s more concerned about how many children went to sleep hungry last night. And, maybe His goal isn’t for us to get people in the doors of the church so we can tell them about Jesus. Perhaps the true measure of success is how many “church-goers” we can get OUT the doors of the church in Jesus’ name. What then?! Church just lost it’s luster as the ultimate destination. The world has known this for a few decades. We Christians have just been a little slow on the uptake. Busy with programs I imagine.

So, here’s to you, Jesus. Have board, will ride. Show me what you see.

  • Hay sissy! I know we haven’t really been in touch in the last while. I want you to know that your writing has touched me and brings me back to times when we were closer. You have always been the one that was able to make me stop and think a little harder, with the simplest things that you say. I think that you have found your calling and I look forward to reading more. LOVE YOU!

  • Darcy, I’m so glad you logged in! Thank you for posting your comments. I look forward to more dialogue too.

  • I’m really glad to reconnect…again. You hit the nail on the head with this one Dana.Too many of us are trying to live the “churchy” lifestyle, instead of living like Jesus would. Meeting people where they are at, accepting them and loving them through all their STUFF. Miss you too. Frogger forever!!

  • The tough questions are the ones that don’t get asked loudly enough. As you mentioned, we know those questions and maybe they zip across our minds on occasion. But persuing them is another matter. It helps, then, when someone has the courage to speak them out. Thanks for the push!
